SWITZERLAND
Unviersity of Lausanne
How great is it that students can choose from all the tempting flavours that the different European countries have to offer? The slogan "HAVE A TASTE OF EUROPE" and the image of Smarties to pick from remind us how lucky we are to have the choice to travel, study abroad, and get to know the taste of other cultures.
Each nation represented at the UNICA conference is portrayed in the shape of a Smartie. We chose the image of Smarties because they are made by Nestle, one of the best known companies of our country. One red "Swiss" Smartie is kept in the periphery of the European ensemble to illustrate that we are not members of the European Union. Nevertheless, two other red Smarties are scattered within the letters (as are NO, HR, EE, RU), which reminds us that we are also closely connected with the EU in many ways: culturally, economically, and geographically. The question of when and if Switzerland will enter the European Union remains a big debate. As our country is located at the very centre of Europe, universities and students want to be a part of the great European system of study and research. We are convinced that the world moves forwards by sharing ideas and exchanging opinions despite the different political situations.
The colours of the Smarties represent the great diversity in the community of European students, whereas the handwritten notes in the poster highlight the idea of independence and a "do it yourself" spirit. The UNICA student conference also contributes to this spirit as it enables students from all places to participate in shaping their own future. Take a pick!
